Do you guys have any info on the HTP Actic Chill 5460 Are they any good? I would probably put it on a 300 amp DC rig Thanks John
Reply:HTP has a good reputation and I haven't heard anything bad about the cooler. Some members here have water-cooled HTP setups, hopefully some of them will chime in.OTOH, since you're a long way from their only location (Illinois), you may be better off with a brand that can be serviced locally.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I was about to either buy that one or build one myself until I found a nice deal on a used Bernard.The HTP is designed for use with their in house 200 amp welder (and my TA 186 outputs max 200 amp).I'd think about it for a 300 amp machine but looking at its 2 gallon tank and its other specs (somewhat small radiator; 1.8 quarts per minute means it would cycle all of the available coolant every 4 minutes) before buying it for use. It seems to me that if the 300 amps is used frequently or for extended time periods the HTP cooler would be hard pressed to keep the torch cool enough, or in fact stay reasonably cool itself. You could have a melt and if you told them the truth about your welder they may not honor the warranty because, they'd say, you used their cooler in a way it wasn't designed to deal with.If my welder could go to 300 amps I'd give HTP a call to talk about their cooler being used with it before I'd go ahead and buy one.
