AC Motor Mount

Removed mount from old drill press.Had 1/2 hp ac motor. Changed out to 1 1/2 hp 180 volt DC.Top holes on mount where exact, bottom holes where near edge.Added 2 tabs with 1/8 joggle.Welded 7018 rod, usually use 6013. 7018 is hard to start compared to 6013.Charl
Reply:Good job!! As for the 7018 hard to strike. When you break the arc and the rod tip cools for a few seconds, with your gloved hand break the concaved flux off the end of the rod. Reply:I don't want to break your bubble but as far as HP involved, from .5 hp ac tp 1.5 hp dc  the max torque of your new dc motor could very well be 10 to 15x what you had before...   You can surely validate with more accuracy how stronger is a dc over an ac motor, not being at shop my manuals are out of reach for now, good luck.
