Hey all, Tried searching on this one, but not much came up.Im an extreme newb welder and Im just trying to get all my absolute necessities.  So far I have decided on the MM211 w/ 25ft cord.  Thats already ordered and should be on the way.Next is my helmet...I dont want to get the most expensive.  Not so much cuz Im cheap, but more cuz Im just going to be a hobby welder.  I dont think I need the professional stuff.  I also dont want the cheapie stuff either cuz I really want to protect myself. So I think an in betweener would be best.  Anyone know about the Linclon Viking 2450?  Thanks guys and sorry for newb question.
Reply:I guess you are looking for an auto helmet. I bought one of the cheapest ones and I am happy with it. Those guys who do low amp tig welding probably won't use a helmet like this but given I only use stick and some wire feed, I am ok.According to what I have read here, seems there is no midpoint between the cheapos and the expensive ones.Mikel
Reply:Hey I have tried a harbor freight helmet and you get flashed far too much to do any tig welding. I now have a kobalt I got from lowes for $99 and it works well. However I got to use a nice helmet made by morsaf (mac tools) and it was literally a night and day difference so I say get a good hood and not a cheap one. I did a search and couldn't find any reviews on it. Here is my threadhttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=60820I am leaning towards the Miller Performance helmet. It's about $185-$220 online (check ebay) so it's cheaper than the lincoln 2450 and good for the hobbiest from my local store told me. He said if you tig every day get the elite, but if you are a hobbiest just get the performance one. He also said he sells more miller helmets than speedglas if that helps out any.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Just found this thread during a Google search and figured I'd give my opinion.I bought the Viking 2450 in January for $175 shipped and have been using it every week since.  It's been an excellent performing helmet for me.  Nice big eye port, and with the 4 sensors, it reacts quickly and consistantly even when working around fixtures that potentially block some sensors.  I just recently had an issue with the sensitivity going bad.  In a well lit room, it stays dark constantly even with the sensitivity turned down all the way.  I called Lincoln directly and they sent out a replacement panel the same day along with a call tag to pick up the defective one.  Excellent customer service on their part.As long as I don't have any more issues with the helmet, I'll continue to recommend the Viking 2450 to anyone.Last edited by SuedePflow; 04-23-2012 at 03:42 PM."There are two types of people in America - those who try to classify everyone into two types and those who don't."

Reply:Just bought a 3M Speedglas 9100xx.  I'm sure I'll like it more and get more life out of it."There are two types of people in America - those who try to classify everyone into two types and those who don't."
Reply:I have a 2450, love it, zero issues.  Went through a few of the sub-$100 auto's before it, with the lack of sensors the cheap ones have you'll blind yourself a few times before upgrading hoods.
