I just ordered a precision tig 185 from my local dealer. The backlog is running 4-6 weeks for the tig with basic ready pack and no delay for the ready pack with cart. A couple of questions for those with tig experience--Will the high frequency cause interference to tv computer etc? The machine will be used in my attached garage.Also I noticed that the torch that comes with it is rated for 150 amps. Does this mean I will have to buy a new torch to go up to 185 amps?Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Reply:I have a precision tig 185 haven't had a with the high frequency. With the torch my understanding is it has to do with both amperage and time or duty cycle. Air cooled torches don't do well with high amperage and long duty cycles, my understanding is the tungsten overheats.
Reply:Hey,I have a Miller Synchrowave 180 SD. It also came with a 150 amp torch (Weldcraft) I have not had a single problem to date with it. As far as HF. I have not had problem with my Laptop in my shop with the Tig. Reply:i just got back from lincoln 2 weeks ago, at the end of my stay out there i got to use a p.t. 185 a huge upgrade from the old 175 but it is still a basic machine, yes it has some nice options but you MUST realize that you are not going to be able to do 1/4 in al for 8 hours a day......what are you planning on welding ? the majority of the tig work i do is under 80 amps, i rarely go over 80 and if i have to i will use a mig or heavens forbid stick weld it..............if you are concerned about the torch being under rated get a water cooler and water cooled torch set up..........or back out of the sale and step up to the 250 amp machinesand yes if i had the 1800.00 i would have one in the barn....either way good luck dawg !!
Reply:dawg I think I will be using the tig for the full range of thicknesses about equaly. I was just concerned that I would destroy the torch if I used it at full power occasionaly.don
Reply:i think that real OCCASIONAL full power would be ok but if you find your self using 125 amps daw in and day out i would set it up with a water cooler or go inverter, the t.a. 185 is a great tig machine and defenitly out performs the p.t. hands downand the t.a. is right in the ball park of the p.t. 185 $$$ wiseand not to mention the electric bill!!dawg |
