I got one of thesehttp://cgi.ebay.com/Hydraulic-Down-F...item3361c32072or very like it.I got it to run for a few months (mag switch was set up for 220V and everything was loose)now the motor tries to run, but doesnt make it..how do i know if the correct capacitors are fitted.motor says 115V ( but the switch was 220v) one capacitor says 250v  150 uFother capacityor says250v 22 uFis it worth trying to fix as it is a POS??G
Reply:Take the capacitors to your local motor shop and they can sell you new ones for about $6 a piece. The volt rating on a capacitor is just a maximim. The motor may be switchable to 220V. The diagram is typically on the inside of the cover plate where the wires go in the motor. Assembly quality may have been poor but with some careful tweaking that should be a good little machine. Grizzly and several others sell the same unit.http://www.grizzly.com/products/5-x-...vel-Head/G9742Some reviews.http://www.amazon.com/Grizzly-G9742-...owViewpoints=1Last edited by Brad Blazer; 10-17-2010 at 08:24 AM.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
Reply:The capacitors are probably the issue, but here's something to think about...The oil they put in the worm drive box is more like slightly thickened water, and if you run the saw continuously for anything over three minutes the gearbox starts to overheat. Drain it out and fill it with spindle oil or maybe Mobile 1 and you'll see an instant difference.I discovered this when i was cutting a whole stack of steel bars, after about 45 minutes of cutting, the saw stalled out and wouldnt restart. The gearbox was close to 200 degrees and was locked up solid. I took the belt off the motor and it started easy, took off the blade and the top wheel spun free. When I opened up the gearbox, the oil was litterally steaming. I let it cool off, replaced the crappy oil and haven't had a problem since.

Reply:Hey!Does It matter which wire goes where?G
Reply:its a pretty good saw.  I just used mine over the weekend to cut 2"x2" hard roll solid.  took 7 minutes, but it did a fine job.  After learning how to set the saw up, i can make predictable straight cuts now.  it should be able to handle 4x4x1/2 angles, but i'm not sure if it's suppose to be able to cut that angle hour after hour though.  It is a pretty small motor, and the gear box is probably not gonna be able to handle it.the non-hydraulic version, with a really crappy stand should go for about 160-240$.  In my opinion, its worth it to get a beefy motor on that saw.  mine has been able to cut everything that fits in the vise, but i'm not making a living with the saw though.

Reply:I'd forget the Mobil one or any motor oil for that matter and pack the gearbox with synthetic grease.  I have the same saw and did the gearbox right away.  I also replaced the crap motor with a Marathon I got from TSC for 65 bucks.  The offshore motors are energy wasters and make very little torque.  Mine would get hot and smoke if stalled, right away.  It went to the landfill.I had to bore the inner diamter of the motor pulley but that was no biggie.
Reply:Yea had to put another motor on it. capacitors didnt fix it.working good now, but the vice still sucks.im thinking of putting a new acme thread and nut on it and doing away with the quick release.how did you all fix the vice?G
