Brand new to welding and jumped right into tig. I know I need a lot of work so any help is appreciated.Equipment:Thermal Arc 181i + Tig torch 17VArgon @ 20 CFH3/32 2% Thoriated3/32 ER70S-2 filler#5 cup160 amps 3/16 2x3 rectangular tubing The tube was was "single V" beveled for butt weld. My plan was for two passes but I stopped for the night. These are first passes. First one is before wire brushing:Any criticism or suggestions?
Reply:You're off to a good start. Being realistic, nobody should expect perfect beads right from the get-go. Your beads leave room for improvement. Get some rest, and think of some new joinery to practice on. The goal is to always be consistent across the entire joint. Practice will only help you, so get yourself settled for a whole lot more of the same thing.Last edited by tanglediver; 01-20-2014 at 11:42 PM.City of L.A. Reply:my amperage would have been much lower. .. .like 105ish to start.remember with tig-welding, you can run a bit too-cold and its easy to tell if you are not getting fusion. you can basically start slow and cold, and work your way up to where you are truly comfortable.the fact that you just started and are able to list your machine, material, and even your filler Is pretty admirable. ntm electrode lol. most guys I work with call 2% thor. "the red one". your off to a great start. keep material in front of you and play with that machine a bit, even to the point of seemingly silly extremes to teach yourself what too hot and too cold look like.bosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
