ok guys im trying to get some ideas on how to build a gate for my car port but i dont have room for one that slides side ways so i was thinking something like a hanger style bifolding door. has anyone seen or built one and can give some ideas?

Reply:Hanging a gate like that garage door would seem like it would create a height "restriction" issue. If you had something tall in your pick up ,like say an air compressor, you might have to off load outside the gate.
Reply:im not worried about the height so much because i just want something to prevent access into my back yard. i kind of saw some desighns and think i can make up a track on both sides of the door and have it pulled up with a cable and some type of pully system only problem im seeing is setting it all up to opening and closing on a motor.
Reply:Fence guys have built gates that go vertical.  There's even a couple of company's that make pivot gates that are motor operated and go vertical.  I've built bifold swing gates that work well.  What might be interesting would be a gate that hangs a ninety on a track, kewel to the max.  Another idea is a simple roll up chain gate like they have at the malls.life is good
Reply:what do you mean about the hanging 90 on the track? are you talking about swinging up and then sliding in kinda thing?

Reply:So, it would wrap around the garage?
Reply:Nice helicopter. Is the driveway made to slide it out on a track? For the gate, what about using rail road style gates that swing up?Thats the wierdest garage door I ever saw.
Reply:I work on hangar doors, bifolds are slick as snot but have a lot of moving parts. If the drive chain breaks, it will probably rip the carport down when the door falls.I would either do something like this: http://www.wilsondoors.com/products/hydromax.phpOr get a porvene style door like this:   http://www.porvenedoors.com/default.asp.pg-Series200
Reply:My shop is an old hanger that has a bifold with cables.  Pics in a day or twoSent from my SGH-M919 using TapatalkLong after the price is forgotten, the quality will remain. Both of my Poppy's 1954 Short Hoods -Third generation to weld with it and teaching a fourthSA 2## - Bought and sold more than I can remember or care to list, 8 in the shop right now

Reply:bi fold could work, top of top panel mounted to pivot bottom of bottom panel would need wheels riding in a track like a traditional garage door. winch mounted to celing of carport with a pulley at the gate to run the cable down to the bottom of the gate. would just need something to kick out the split in the panels to start them folding. clearly some additional bracing may be needed depending on the construction of your carport.
