Reply:Not 100% sure, but it looks like a P.O.S. lathe.  Is that black paint on the chuck or was somebody using it with flux core to weld pipe?Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:I don't know, I am thinking about buying it for $100. No tooling but it looks like I can get some tooling chuck for the tail and quick chafe for tooling pretty cheap. Any thoughts? Is it as old as it looks? Chinese ? Or is it decent?TimSent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Reply:I suppose any lathe would be preferable to no lathe, but that one might prove that thought wrong. I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. Besides a very limited work envelope it is in sorry condition. If you really must have a lathe, save your money and buy one that will prove useful. At a $100, I believe you would be getting less than what you paid for. Motor and a set of step pulley sheaves for it will cost you more than that...and it will still only be maybe a foot center to center...or less.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:It comes with a motor, single speed, was thinking Harbor Freight chuck, carbides, and quick change set. Have a buddy that works in a motor shop, figured maybe I would get a variable speed motor if is one isn't, rig up a box and install some controls. Last week, my buddy found a mini lathe at a yard sale for $75 looks like a grizzly mini, but for $75 I could start learning. Dam guy waited 4 hours to tell and the sale was over before I could get there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Reply:Looks like a typical 7 x 12 minilathe where someone replaced the original motor & control with that pulley sticking way out the left end of the headstock.  What became of the compound slide? I don't see one.I might give $20 for it and use it for grinding and polishing stuff.Last edited by Oldendum; 05-23-2015 at 02:11 PM."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Looks like a old HF 7x10 with a Enco tailstock, and a lot of the other parts gone.

Reply:What kinda stuff do you plan to machine?
Reply:I think Atlas made lathes for Sears..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:Originally Posted by Bluehunter40I don't know enough to answer that. Seems like on more that one occasion I've needed to drill solid round stock. Maybe some small axels or bushings. I recently made a dolly for a tradesman to move large impact doors around to install them. I could have made nice axels however the one I made was okay and the guy loved it. At some point I want a small mill as well. For the e very once in while thing. But most of all I just want to learn. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Reply:I wouldn't pay more than $25 for that lathe. If it was together and running, maybe $75. Don't let the guys on here get you down, about buying crappy tools. You should always get the best tools you can afford, sometimes that means crap. But a crappy tool is better than nothing and will help you learn.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:Less than $300 you can buy a real lathe and be a lot happier. South Bend Logan Atlas my ole SB was made before I was born and does every thing I ask.Doing the best I can with what I got
Reply:That thing is junk, it looks like it's missing quite a few parts.  Save some money, shop around and buy a real lathe.  You really need to adjust RPM and speeds and feeds to get the most out of a lathe.  I started with an 11" Logan, which was a perfect general purpose garage lathe.  Then I upgraded to a 5HP 14" Cadillac.  The difference is night and day.  You'll be amazed and what you can use them for.Just busted out a 1.25" dimple die yesterday.
