I'm looking for a decent hobby plasma cutter. Nothing crazy. So let me know if any of ya are looking to get rid of yours and up grade. Thanks !
Reply:Have you tried you local craigslist? May times they have some really good buys.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Ya but Wyoming and Montana are slim pickins..These are the times I wish I still lived in a big city...Or atleast near one.
Reply:ya yeah I can see how craigslist might be a bit slow out there.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:What material types and thicknesses would you like to cut? What type of power do you have available? (120 volt, 220 volt, how many amps on your circuit). Are you looking for used equipment or new? Hand or mechanized?  I'd be happy to answer your questions.Jim Colt  Hypertherm
Reply:I will be cutting mainly 13 gauge or smaller. I am putting in a new 220volt outlet. I can put any amp on it I need or what ever you suggest. I would like to find a used one but am prepared to buy a new one. I have my eye on a hypertherm 30. I have heard nothing but good things about this unit and it will do more then I need. definitely a hand unit also. Reply:The Powermax30 would certainly suit your needs.....it is unlikely that you will find a used one as they are in high demand.....they ship from our plant in NH as fast as they are built. I always recommend buying from your favorite local weld supply dealer.....they often run specials and will provide better service and support as compared to buying one through an internet dealer. You can find authorized Hypertherm dealers on the  www.hypertherm.com   website under the "contact us" tab.If you are one that likes to keep your equipment for many years....then it is wiser to buy a major brand (as opposed to import units)...and pay a little more up front. Over time it will prove to be far less expensive....and will still be opating and have parts/service availablity.JimLast edited by jimcolt; 02-03-2010 at 08:52 AM.

Reply:I am going to order 1 on friday from here. this is even 50 bucks cheaper then what I found. THANKS Originally Posted by specterhttp://store.weldersource.com/088003.html$1,009 with free shipping & no taxThats where I got my PowerMax 45 from. They have great service and support.
Reply:If you have a 30 Amp 120 volt outlet.....the the Powermax30 will work just as well as it would on a 230 volt source. If you operate it on a 20 Amp, 120 volt circuit......at any setting above about 27 Amps output you will likely trip the breaker after a short distance of cutting. Personally....you should put in a 230 volt circuit....as you may want to operate a welder off it some day......and it probably won't cost much more than a 30 Amp 120 volt circuit!Your compressor will be fine for the Powermax30.Jim Colt
Reply:man thanks for the detailed info !
Reply:Glad to be of assistance. If you get the PowerMax 30 you'll be very pleased that you did. The manual is exceptionally well detailed in the PowerMax 30 operation. And the DVD that comes with the unit is great. Of course Having Jim here to help out is a plus.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:You'll probably want some kind of filter as well.  The first week or so I used the IR regulator/filter on the drop on which I use the cutter.  It was 5 microns and still pretty wet in spite of about 30' of copper tubing.  For best results put a Motorguard or similar filter at the cutter.  This is done regardless of the brand of cutter.  Plasma cutting wants the air as dry as you can get it.  If you search the forums here there are several different solutions but it seems the Motorguard is at least one of the most popular if not the most popular around here. The Weldersource guys, like many other online vendors will also include a shade 5 safety glasses and a pair of gloves suitable for plasma cutting.  I've since bought the Hypertherm shade 6 face shield though more to throw a bone at the LWS for supporting me.
