My wife's grandfather gave me his old oxy/acet setup. It uses the A size fittings. I do not have any flashback arrestors for it. Is this a necessity if I am only going to be using it three or four times per year? If it is really necessary, I would like to get a bargain set. Anyone know a good place to get them reasonably priced? I believe that the "A" size is 3/8-24. I'm assuming what I need is a male/female 3/8 fitting but I am having a hard time locating them for a good price (don't yet have a nice set of saved merchants at this time). My $120 Mig - Harbor Freight 151T 220VMy $300 Plasma Cutter - Rattler 40A 110V/220VCurrent project (Miata Trailer):http://www.lightweightmiata.com/trailer/
Reply:Yes, if you are an inexperienced user, you especially need arrestors because flashback is often caused by improper use of the torch. Your local welding supplier should have them if you can't find them online.EDIT: Some models of Victor torches have internal flashback arrestors already installed. Pretty sure those torch part numbers end in FC.Last edited by tbone550; 01-27-2014 at 11:00 AM.
Reply:No you dont need a (singular) flash back arrestor. You should have 2. One on the torch handle and one on the regular. Do you have any idea how dangerous acetylene is?its so unstable it will explode if put under too much pressure, and thats why you have flash back arrestors. |
