I have had a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 for about 6 years now. It has worked flawlessly everytime that I have used it. I use flux core occasionally and solid wire with gas occasionally. Lately I have had a bit of trouble with the wire feeding. It feels as if it is sticking in the cable liner, but I am not sure. It is not sticking on the tip. About every 6 inches or so of wire, it seems to stick, almost as if the wire speed stops for a split second then there it is. If I just feed the wire without striking an arc, it is fine. The drive roll seems to be driving it ok. I am curious if the cable liner needs to be cleaned or replaced. I am unsure of how to clean it, if it possible. I havent ran but about 3 ten pound spools through it, as I just use it for small stuff. Anyone have any suggestions on a fix? I have nothing but good to say about my weldpak 100, but I would love to get it back up to par. Thanks in advance Rob.....
Reply:It is real possible to clean the liner of most machines. Your manual will give you the 123 steps. Altho it normally takes a lot of wire to get one clogged, time can work against you. The wire you run through it can be corroded a little more than normal too when things just set. It's an easy task and probably needs done anyway. If that isn't it, a good cleaning doesn't hurt. Pull it out, take the tip and diffuser out, blow the liner and blow the tube with a compressor. You can be surprised at some of the crude that comes out of there.Besides that verify your drive pressure is enough to feed good and strong.
Reply:Stupid enough, but have you replaced the contact tip lately?
Reply:I have replaced the tip, that was the first thing I thought of. I bet it does need to be blown out. Where is a good online retailer to get the liners if I need one? I will try cleaning the liner.....

Reply:I've thought the same thing with mine from time to time. But it has always been a problem with the spool itself. I find that I have over tightened it or something else and the spool of wire is not turning freely. Just my $.02
Reply:I use a weld pak 155 and have experienced similar feed problems. None of the local suppliers stocked the correct liner, so I took a stab at cleaning it. Take the liner out and drop it into a can of acetone, put the lid on tight and shake it a bit. Fish it out and let the liner air dry and reinstall it, you'll probably see an improvement. I probably don't need to mention that this is only for all metal cable liners, not the ones for aluminum wire. Also, remove any o-rings or non metal parts before cleaning. There are no small projects |
