TIG differences

I am trying to figure out the differences between scratch start and lift start.  The only TIG machine I have used is HF.  I plan on buying a TIG machine pretty soon and I'm sure I won't be able to afford an HF machine.  Any help in understanding would be greatly appreciated.ThanksLincoln 175Monkey Wards 230v.  Stick
