I am looking at getting a tig setup to learn how to do it. I am very proficient at stick and mig welding and have a vantage 300 and a Hobart 210 mig. I am debating on what kind of set up to get a standalone to plug into the vantage for remote jobs? I have never tig welded before and non of the other welders I work with know how to tig either but want to learn with me. Lol What kind of set up do ya recommend?Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.

Reply:Don't really know to be honest with you I do all my stick welding in Dc. I would like to be able to weld stainless, aluminum and mild steel.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:This thread pretty much lists all the basic parts to do DC tig off your Vantage.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-Welder-PeopleI don't know enough about that machine to know if it will take a remote or not, or if it will do AC. If it can do both, the by adding a HF box Ac tig might also be possible. If it can take a remote, you should be able to use a pedal with DC tig.Edit: Looks like the Vantage is a DC only machine so Ac tig on alum is out if I'm correct.Other options would be an inverter based dedicated tig unit like a Maxstar or Dynasty run off your aux power.Last edited by DSW; 01-29-2014 at 07:30 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Yep, if you want to weld aluminum plug a Dynasty 200 or 280 into your Vantage. You will then also have a good shop machine you can weld with without having to run the engine drive.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps |
