A few years ago I decided that I needed a welding table, but really didn't know how to proceed in building one. I looked at what some others had built to get ideas. I knew I wanted something portable. My wife went to a garage sale a few years prior and saw something she just knew I could find a use for, she bought it for $5.00....for a while it was used for clamps in my woodworking endeavors, but was ill suited for the task, too dang clumsy. But it would be the starting point for my new project. As you can see it was already on casters.Since my plans were to get a used Lincoln 225 stick welder I wanted the top of the table high enough to allow the welder to neatly fit underneath, so I cut the rack to the desired lengths and welded the one end to the framework. The only thing I had to buy was some 2" angle iron. I cut the pipes off the top and re-welded them on the lower portion along with the existing two others. My thoughts on this was they would make a nice place to hang C-clamps and pliers.The top cost me a case of beer, my farmer friend had what I needed and said when I brought over the case to stay and help him drink a few.....I borrowed my dad's welder for this project, since it is the same kind as I wanted to get I did a mock up of how it will set under the table. I'll need to make a hanger for the cables yet. When I told my dad I borrowed his welder.....he told me to keep it and he would come over to my place if he needed anything welded up. I learned to weld with this welder about 35 years ago when I was farming with him and my brother so this has added "sentimental" value.I am looking to find a vise for it yet. I just have two shelves under the top to keep all the little leftovers from projects and I usually find a use for most of them. As for the paint, no, mine hasn't ever seen any except for some overspray on the top from painting some small project. Reply:I was about 14 when I built my first one. I OA welded it out of used 3/4" pipe, and used a scrap of 1/4" plate on the top. I am up to 4" legs and 1/2" tops now, and looking at some 3/4" for the next one.
Reply:Steve safe simple efficient. Looks good. My grandfather had a Lincoln 180 amp welder that looked like your 225 amp. He taught me how to weld in the early 60s with the welder. Brings back old memories. Happy to see your post
