new welding machine

Looking to purchase a new welding machine for field use. We had a diesel machine that crapped out today. Had someone recommend the miller trailblazer? Anyone have any experience with this machine? Is it worth the extra money? Will be dealing with structural work (I-beams and tube steel). Not afraid to pay for a quality machine.

Reply:Trailblazers were a great all purpose unit until they recently dropped the AC ability on the newer units. They are still a great stick machine and will run wire quite nice. However they don't have the balls the bigger units do like the Big Blue's.A lot depends on just how you use the machine. If you do a lot of air arcing, they probably aren't the machine you are looking for. Same if you need to push really big wire or rod. On the other hand if you are looking for a nice mid sized, lighter weight unit to do a range of things, stick, some wire, DC tig using a remote, decent amount of aux power for site tools, they might be the unit you are looking for..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I never liked the 3800 rpm machines for serious work,  I would say Lincoln vantage is the most versatile of the true 1800RPM true business machines.       i might be bias'edVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I had no clue the TB didn't have the AC anymore. Oh well, wonder why. Anyway unless you need higher kw for auxillary I'd go with a SA250 or a miller big blue. And miller big blue was written in lower case since it was used in the same sentence as SA250. Reply:I've been using a miller big blue 400D cc/cv on a daily basis for almost 5 months now. I've really grown to like this machine.
