As I was replacing some of the line on my fishing gear this past weekend, I quickly realized how frustrating is it to hold a reel/rod and while balancing a reel spool between my feet. All the while trying to hold tension on the line. As the spool was rolling around the room, I knew what I was about to build. REEL SPOOLER. As this is my 2nd project with a welder. Cart being 1st. Can't wait to give it a try. Only thing it needs is a way to mount a drill to the side of the reel to make it motorized. Ideas?
Reply:Should work, are you going to add a way to apply drag to the spool so you can wind the line on tight? With mono winding on tight isn't a problem, just don't get as much line on the reel if its a little loose. With spectra lines it needs to be spooled very tight to prevent the line from digging into itself and breaking. When I spool my reels with fresh line I push a piece of rope through the spool and tie each side to table-chair legs. Keeps the spool from dancing all over the room. If I'm spooling with spectra I put another rope under the first with a rag over it and tape it in place to add drag. I will add a picture of my setup if you want.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG |
