Does anyone have experience welding 2324 t39?Would this be good for a beginner to cut his teeth on? I'm just trying mig on aluminum for the 1st time and dont want to set myself up for failure.I've come across a deal for some sheet in .063 and .032. There is a LOT of it and I would have to take it all. I think this alloy has some copper in it to strengthen it. Does this complicate welding? I had some 2024 t3 before and remember difficulty with tig, and having to use heat to bend it, however that may have just been me.. I'm sure the .032 is too thin for mig at least for me.Please excuse the rookie questions, but that's why I'm here. Thanks.Brian
Reply:2024 T-3 is an aircraft grade of aluminum. It contains some copper, and is very strong and has quite a bit of temper to it.It is not meant to be bent...it will typically just snap in two.I'm not too familiar with 2324 T-9. Google would know about it...6061 T-6 would be much better to mig weld on.Rich

Reply:Originally Posted by BluckyThanks, didn't find much on weldability, at least in layman's terms with google search. I think I just needed to hear a voice of reason. I'll pass on this stuff. There was far too much of it anyway. ......ThanksBrian.

Reply:The thickness would have been difficult at best for mig aluminum.  Aluminum mig is absolutely best in spray transfer.  0.063 and spray transfer do not belong in the same sentence.Multimatic 200Ellis 1800Haberle S225 9" cold sawMM 300;  Spoolmate 30A w/ WC-24TB 302GDynasty 280 DX Tigrunner
Reply:In the 60s.....welding thin 2024-T4 sheets using GMAW (short circuit) with .035 5556 filler and sub zero cooling.  Worked.  Experimental.  2000 series Al is not practical in industry using standard arc processes.www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/613871.pdfLast edited by ManoKai; 06-11-2015 at 05:53 PM."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
