"Honu" MagDrill SOF (stand-off fixture). 1/2" and 1/4" A36 HRS.  Custom design/build to interface a Hougen 904HMD (non-swivel base) MagDrill for a client ("Milkerman") in MI.  "Honu" supports the use of annular cutters and twist drills on pieces affixed to top -or- bottom of the work surface.  Pleased on the outcome and finish of S/N 001.  Made a minor fastener adjustment to the base sub-assembly thanks to Milkerman's input.3D Modeling (FormZ); Plasma Cut (Hypertherm PowerMax 45, Quincy 2-Stage 60Gal Compressor); Drilling/Transferring/Threading (Jancy Slugger Holemaker II MagDrill, MA Ford Uniflute, Spellmaco, Norseman, Starrett); Fastening (McMaster-Carr, SHCS Fasteners, BlackOxide); MIG Axial Spray (Miller XMT304); Surfacing/Grinding (Metabo), Finishing (PowerCoat, 1-stage, FigureFinishing, Manassas Park, VA).Special Mahalo to Len McCreary and Christine at FigureFinishing, LLC for their outstanding powder coating services and professional client relations.  Top-tier.  Designed & Built in USA. Reply:That is really nice, I like the finish they put on it and the design/fabrication is top quality. If I had my mag drill I'd be in line right now to get one, do you have any plans on making other fixtures like a pipe clamping base? Just curious what the little round piece with the shcs is? I'm sure he will be very happy with this.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE

Reply:Mahalo loa nui to all for your professional comments.  The design/build required a substantial amount of preparation, testing, and fabricating.  S/Ns 002 and 003 are in the worx and have a few additional features/upgrades.@ Chris T - the circular fixture aft of the drill's magnet is a safety featuring providing longitudinal "lock-in" in the event of electrical power disruption.  The fixture, born of the slug from the large hole in the work surface slug, was hand-turned on a Metabo bench grinder to the correct OD.  The slug's SHCS is set with eccentricity relative to the face.  Similarly, traverse "lock-in" is provided by the 2ea black oxide holding clamps on the drill magnet's left/right face.  Pipe and tubing fixtures are also built and ready for integration.@ docwelder - the work face's thru-hole is indexed to the mag drill's arbor (cutter) centerline.  Manufacturer-specific.  The relative coordinate system for the design is based on this centerline measurement.  There is adequate surface area in all three axis of the work face to allow centering/marking/punching, in addition to affixing a work piece to the surface via welder vice grips or C-clamps.  Note:  The above image, showing a Jancy Slugger Holemaker II MagDrill w/ a keyed Jacobs chuck arbor and 7/16" twist drill, is a marketing photo.
