Yup. It is. short and sweet. Could I have done it better;yes. Could I have done it differently; yes. Could you have done it better; Most definitely. But this is how I did it. The total cost on this table falls somewhere around $7.00 all inclusive. About $3.00 worth of fill rod, and $4.00 worth of Argon. All steel was free from a job site demo job. 3" x 3" x 1/8" wall square tube. Borrowed a freinds Porta-Band to cut it, but with nothing to really clamp to that was solid enough, I did the best I could on the cuts. I may (if it comes cheap enough) look into a 1/2" top, but probably not.I do a lot, if not most, of my fab work on site at various places, most being food processing plants. I'm used to scavenging items to use as saw horses or temporary tables. So I'm not too concerned with having a table that is flat to within .0001" over 8 foot. It's flat, and I can clamp stuff to it.

Reply:Howd the Alpha do on some of the thicker stuff you have there. Only really tried it on thicker stuff once. And it was a scrap mess around type thing.Nice table, work with what you have. Free.99 is the best price
Reply:Beefy!  And the price is right.  Good work.
Reply:dcoffmanjr  - It was actually - long and bitter . . . 'Could I have done it better - yes, Could I have done it differently - yes, Could you have done it better - most definitely'.Could I have wasted more time and materials?Probably not!Your $7.00 was spent on trashing good materialsof much higher value. You learned next to nothing in the exercise, andthe tables utility is even less. This Forum is loaded with table ideas; good, bad,and ugly . . . don't establish a new category.Study first - build last: and Learn to weld - before you design.   Opus

Reply:I need to make some sort of portable table.  My garage is smallish and I don't have room for something permanent.
Reply:Hey looks great. I need to build the same thing. I can't wait for my Alpha tig to show up on my door. Your going to have a nice setup whats next a cart?
Reply:Nice job of making what you need/want for little investment. It certainly looks plenty stout and will last forever. Reply:Good work on using and re-using remains of material, to the one who think you could have better use for it,  i can tell that 12 or 15 pieces of 30 or so inches of 3x3 can last a decade or more rusting  in a scrap pile...
Reply:Cool!!!
Reply:Different but it will get the job done.  A word of caution thou, your table location, the distribution panel behind it, you should have three feet clearance in front of it and must be accessible.  Just a heads up.  Bob

Reply:@ MN Dave - no prob bro.  Tomorrow's word is 'alliteration'.  Think "All this machinery making modern music" from Rush's SOTR.  Magic "Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-GyorgyiLooks great to me, like the idea of little money involved!
