Not really a welding question, at least I would prefer not to weld in this case. I have two shipping containers, a 40' and 20' that I want to fasten together end to end or butt to butt so to speak and make a solid 60' "wall" after they are blocked up and leveled. Is there a relatively cheap easy way to do this? I'm thinking there is probably a fastener built just to do this but I have no idea what it would be called. This will be under the north edge of a 40X60 barn I plan to put up in the future, basically a wind block and lockable storage areas.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X

Reply:I think welding would be the preferred method with this crowd. Why don't you want it welded together? Probably the most solid way to do it.Get some 2x4s and nail them together.
Reply:Seems like a company like LEGO would have something for this already.  LEGO CONEX.  "USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Get some elastomeric caulk they use for putting cars together these days. Block them up and line them up. Get a piece of sheet metal cut to fit nice and glue them together. You would be hard pressed to pull them apart later.

I've never seen anything to connect them together and have hauled plenty of them on both container, and sliding axle trailers. I'm certain you could fashion a one foot extension and chain binder the containers together smashing rubber seals on the ends of the extension for weather integrity.

I've had them side by side and welded together for ten years or so which was great, they shifted very little, but now I'm moving them to have room to expand and complete my shop..... Hasn't been real fun to cut them apart.
Reply:Use the connectors they use for stacking them on the trains. They have the holes on the ends don't they.

Reply:@ Greyhorse - contact www.seabox.com.  Excellent firm.  They offer a horizontal tandem lock for connecting FEUs/TEUs and may suit your needs, http://seabox.com/products/detail/horizontal-twistlock."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:I assume you are removing the end walls, so it becomes a "walk thru"?

Reply:If you do a good job blocking them up and leveling, you shouldn't have to fasten them together. My name's not Jim....
