Wire getting stuck on Pro MIG 175

Today I went and picked a new regulator for my PRo MIG 175...When I paid the 90 bucks for the regulator and arrived at my place I was so damn happy....Just when I installed the new .025 roll and hit the trigger...I see the wire going into the cable....I could feel it coming along... I could almost feel it at the end of the gun...Suddenly...machine slips and can´t feed the wire no more. It gets stuck about 3/4`s from the beggining...I tried it 3 times...tried to feed it from the gun...same result it gets stuck... After trying for about an hour I give up.... Is there something I could do to fix it? Please don´t tell me I need a new gun =( I´m tired of rushing for parts and paying little but constantly...People at the store almost make me frequent buyer... this time they said good bye and telling me they are waiting for me tomorrow... Reply:You did have the tip off, right? The next thing is to check and see how the wire feed cable nestles into the diffuser assembly. Make sure that it wasn't scrunched back up the tube during the assembling.
Reply:Like Sandy said. Take the tip off,take the diffuser off(the part the tip screws into) and then run the wire out. After the wire is out a couple inches,put the parts back on. Get in the habit of doing this everytime and it will eliminate some headaches.
Reply:Yeah, had the tip off.... Yeah, i´ve changed lots of MIG wires before...but in others machine...also took the diffuser off...Problem is wire is gettin stuck into the liner....not just before the tip...I even took all the gun with cable off and manually inserted the wire so I would look where it gets stuck at...It all goes very well until a point where it starts getting rough and then no more wire entrance at all....(yeah wire is 100% straight)....maybe bending the liner lots of times? Reply:You're probably right.  But, if it were me I'd pull the liner out and see if I could freely feed wire thru it.  Probably is the problem but if no visible clues are obvious when you pull it out I wouldn't rush to get a new one until I was certain.Good luck,Clay
Reply:If you were able to feed the wire all the way through the liner and out the gun, would it continue to feed correctly?    If so, I have three suggestions (learned from wresting with my Weld-Pak 155 & Pro-Mig 175):1. Jiggle the torch cable as the wire feeds through the liner.     Sounds silly, but the liner is basically a coiled spring that is not completely smooth on the inside.    Jiggling the cable helps prevent the lead edge of the wire from getting too hung up on any of the coils.2. I started using an electricians wire cutter (bypass style) to cut off the wire before feeding it into the liner.   When I used a pair of plain diagonal wire cutters, it left a small flattened tip on the wire that was actually wider than the wire diameter, and the edges of the flattened tip would catch on the inside of the liner.     The new cutters I use have two cutting edges that slide past each other to cut the wire from both directions, leaving more of a point.   I believe they're cutters designed for cutting coax cable.3. After cutting the wire, take a minute to file or sand the lead end of the wire to ensure there are no jagged edges.     It helps to leave a rounded tip.There are no small projects
Reply:just a reminder, in case anybody forgets ; if the liner has been kinked ,just once , it's  junk. it usually can NOT be straightened  good enough to let the wire feed properly . and, 025 wire tends to be troublesome anyways .[SIZE="5"Yardbird"

Reply:There is information in the service manual on cleaning out the liner. It's probably got corrosion or a kink. I'd be getting a new liner.
Reply:Thanks all who helped in this thread...Today I brought enough .035 wire to run in all the gun...Guess what was the problem? 1.5" of .035 Fluxcore wire that was in the middle of the cable...that fluxcore was a little piece of the roll I ran before...When I pushed the new .035 wire the fluxcore it got expelled easily. After that I tried pushing the .025 cable but it will still stop...however the .035 wire runs fine and easily...so I guess that´s just the wire or maybe a little kink that .035 does not notice...Since I will be welding mostly 11 ga and those kind of materials .025 is not that neccesary.Thanks all for you help!Last edited by elvergon; 11-29-2006 at 05:12 PM.My Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!
