In the manual for my AC225 it says i should always shut the unit off when changing AMP ranges, up to this point i am obediant,but do the rest of you do this task? seems i'll wear out the on/off switch,and isn't turning it off'n'on just as hard on it?
Reply:But replacing an ON-Off switch is faster, easier, and cheaper than replacing the transformer or some circuit boards.Some machines can have settings changed while in use, and some can't.If the manual on the AC225 says to turn the main switch OFF before changing the AMP range, then turn the switch OFF before you change the AMP range.
Reply:"Do not turn the selector switch while welding as this will damagethe contacts."  Pasted verbatim from the Lincoln 225S operator's manual.Turning off the power switch before moving the heat selector knob is just extra insurance from frying the internal contacts.  It is NOT mandatory.  But if somewhere, somehow the welding rod slips or falls and it arcs to ground while you are turning the welding current adjusting knob...it's YOUR fault.Last edited by 69 chevy; 02-12-2007 at 12:28 PM.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!

Reply:Just be safe.  Don't use a bare hand to put a new rod in the stinger, or be VERY careful of what else you are touching.  Because if the machine is ON, then the stinger is LIVE.
