Hi Everyone,I just spent the day doing some preliminary work and testing on the the oldest of the three SA-200s I bought to restore and sell. I have to say that given the condition and state of dis-repair, I was impressed. The thing is missing a starter so I back fed the generator with another DC welder to run it as a starter motor. I was able to get it fire up on starting fluid but the carb was so full of crap it wouldn't give fuel to the engine. So, I removed the carb and took it to my bench. I got it apart and found it was full of crap. I cleaned everything with acetone, made a new gasket and put it all back together. I fed it with a seperate fuel source because the tank is just as bad as the carb was. BTW, if you can make a gasket you don't need the kit. Save your money... I put the carb back on and fired that baby up. She choked and sputtered for a few minutes and then smoothed right out. The idler needs a little work and adjustment but otherwise it ran great. I decided to see how it would weld. I laid down a few beads and it was smoothe. This is one of the old round generators with the copper windings. I intend to restore it nicely with some new features such as a new one wire self contained alternator, one of the new starters, and a full set of gauges. I was really impressed by how good the machine welded considering the fact that the brushes are hardly touching the commutator. I will od course take care of all that. Now, if I can just get that guy that has the starters to answer my PM to him. I'm ready to buy. I am also looking for a source for new doors and a hood. I might as well go ultra delx on this one as it will be the most valuable.Dave B.E-MAIL: [email protected] PAGES: www.wfmservice.comwww.rides4rides.comwww.pvpmedia.com/53f100.htmDad always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."I say, We can make it better. |
