I bought a lot from an auction. I paid $4000 and got a uni-hydro 50 ton ironworker, 18" kalamazoo chop saw, One of the bigger Jet liquid cooled band saws but cant remember model number, OTC 50 ton press, Sears 12 ton press, huge welding cart with motor and coolant pump, Miller Shopmaster 300 with extended reach wire feeder, huge Baldor pedestal grinder, 3 Dayton 3/4 hp bench grinders, a huge Jet drill press which is brand new never used, and a 12 pack of Miller welders. Reason I am writing this is I am wondering what the 12 pack of miller welders are for? It has a couple big cords in the pack to plug into a power source with a ground so all 12 can be run at the same time. What is something like this used for? Wish I had a picture to post but its back at the shop. And well, Im not.
Reply:Never seen this in person, but from the pictures I have seen of them in Miller and Lincoln catalogs they are intended to be lifted onto sites like taller builds under construction and in ship yards and repair and oil well platforms. Since you posted all of the things you got ....we are going to be wanting a priceSA-250 TMDSquarewave 200Thunderbolt AC/DC1951 G.E. welder

Reply:Yup. There were lots of Lincoln 12 packs scattered around at a pulp mill I worked 1999-2000. Camas Washington. You had to remember which machine you were using because of the tangle of leads piled up at the base of the machines. Make sure your pimp knows too because he was the one going back down to make changes when you switched tasks. At any one time there might be 50 guys striking an arc. We converted the chlorine pulp plant to a peroxide process. The site was over 100 years old and nasty dirty. The equipment we installed had originally been built for the pulp mill at Ketchikan Alaska but was never started. It was cut up and moved on skids to Camas to be installed there. At the time I worked that job the plant was called Fort Howard Paper. I have no idea what it's called now.DanI hope that when i'm dead and gone, people will remember me and think; "Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money!"
Reply:when i worked high rise construction there were usually several welders and we used banks of welders like you describe. on occasion we would piggyback 2 together to gouge. ship building also uses them.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Weld packs are not new. They are commonly used in large projects like steam boiler rebuilds and the like. To keep track of the leads, you simply tag each welding, machine and lead with a number or a colour code. Remotes are nice to use with these weld packs for remote amp control.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:any place you would need 12 welders welding at once, the 12 pack is a viable idea. even if you only needed 8 arcs going the 12 pack would most likely only have 10 working welders at any time anyway. If you paid $4000 for all of that you got a steal and 3/4Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:sounds like a good haul. when i think of 12 paks, i'm not thinking of welders. when i think of banks, i dont think of welders.

Reply:I am pretty sure that some of those items you mention could be bought for 4000 alone... so as everyone else said, well done! That's a steal. I wish I could get a hold on a lot like that...I am also curious to see that 12 welder pack you are talking about... I have never seen one (probably because I am not a welder by trade!)
Reply:They will serve no earthly purpose. I'll arrange shipping, send it all to me, I'll dispose in an environmentally friendly way.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

Reply:I was part of a group that used a bank like that.... There was a funny smell and we looked over to see a liquid snake of rubber running back to the machines. We had all been using the same ground lead and the insulation melted on the concrete floor. The guy who was our lead hand quickly disposed of the evidence before the foreman came around. :'))
Reply:It appears you don't actually have any welders at all. I can't read the whole model number, but it starts with MOG which is a multi operator splitter. One welding power source goes into the bank, and 12 people can weld at the same time (look up a miller MOG manual online if you want to find out more). That would be useful if you are in the right industry, but not worth a whole lot otherwise. You still got your moneys worth on the rest of the haul...XMT 350 MPA Dynasty 280DXSuitcase 8RC / OptimaSpoolmatic 30AThermco Ar / C02 mixerAssorted O/A gear
Reply:You can make book it runs off 480V, 3 phase with a heavy duty bologna power cord.
Reply:Well Ill dump it at the equipment auction and let the wolves fight over it. Or leave it, whatever they decide to do with it.
Reply:Looks pretty old, but you might find a small community college or vo-tech school that wants a bank of welders for students. But that's a long shot...Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:You gotta have a fairly badass power supply to run those MOG's. It has to support however many guys at their welding amperage. 8 guys at 125 amps each is gonna take 1000 amps. Cant hook up a thunderbolt to that thing, I would say.Experience is something you get right after you need it
