309L to Schedule 40 2" Troubles

Hey guys, I started doing Ss to carbon last week and have honestly been having a really hard time. 37° bevel on 2" Schedule 40 pipe in the 2G position. It is gapped at 5/32 and the 309 is 3/32. My root comes out super heavy and fills up the bevel. Then once I get to my 2 bead cap all it wants to do is make huge balls and a mess, it seems as if when I dip the rod into the puddle the filler becomes a small ball and pulls away back onto the rod. I have to complete one more cap and one more complete weld then take my test on 2G. Then I have to doit in 5G and 6G with three visuals and a test on each position by March 15th 5:45p.m. I appreciate any advice y'all can give me.
Reply:Move faster and don't push so much filler into the joint if it is getting filled too much. The rod balling up could be from your angles, try keeping the torch aimed at the center of the pipe. Reply:Comparing your 2" sch. 40 to the first video, your wall thickness is quite a bit thinner.  With ss it makes a difference.  The 5/32" gap you're using might be necessary if you're welding the backside through the gap but you're not there yet.  Suggest you close up to snug 1/8".  60 to 70 amps, if traveling right to left, after first bridging, open slight keyhole on top of bevel, add drop of filler, wash to bottom in 'D' motion, open bottom slightly, up to top, again open slightly and repeat.
