I have been posting on a Lincoln Pro Mig 140 and its quality. After some replies I have drawn a consensus that most think I have a good welder and to get busy working. Well in light of feeling good about the Lincoln and my choice, I did go and exchange the Pro Mig 140 and upgraded it to the Pro Mig 180 which is a 220 volt unit. Got me an extension cord of 30 feet and am getting ready to get busy. What do you all think? They did have a older but still new 175 model there for 70.00 less than the one I got. How is the 175 different from the 180?Whitey

Reply:IIRC, the 140/180 series have a cast metal wire drive and spool gun capability. The 135's and 175's have plastic outer wire drive (metal parts inside) and no spool gun capability. The matching Lincoln spool gin unfortunately lists for more than $600 (less on discount) but for as little as I would use it my SP 175 + is one fine machine. Enjoy and get busy welding! Reply:The 140/180 Lincolns are supposed to have a little better drive train and a little better arc than the 135/175 Lincolns. Top-end wire feed speed is listed as 500 ipm for the new machines versus 400 ipm for the older machines. And the 140/180 machines will accept the ~$200 100SG spool gun for aluminum, the 135/175 don't have that option. For an extra $70 over the 175, the new PM180 sounds good. Now go weld.
