I have been perusing the site and I like the idea of the c-channel top welding table. My question is how far apart is the optimal distance for the space between the c-channel for clamping? Also, what type of clamps are used? Do you clamp to the bottom of the C-channel? to its web? Is a drop bolt system better or just different?I would love to pictures of peoples solutions in these areas, I have some ideas but y'all have more experience it seems in these larger tables and methods of work.
Reply:I have mine spaced 1 1/4" apart. The vice grip type clamp work well from the top up to about a 2" tall piece. A Bessie style clamp will work from the bottom. I keep meaning to make attachments for my Bessie clamps so I can use them from the top just cause Im lazy that wayFor some things I got 2 pieces of 1/4" 2x2 angle I drilled 1/2" holes in and use a piece of 1/4' x 1 1/4 flat bar with a stack of nuts welded in the middle and 2 1/2" bolts welded on the ends on the ends on the bottom of the table. Simply drop a 1/2x13 thread bolt in the angle thread it into the stack of nuts and snug it up with a electric impact. |
