Duty cycle on s-32p 12 suitcase

Hi Guys,I hurt my back this week and I am totally immobile, so while sitting here bored out of my mind I actually read the owners manual on my suitcase.  I have a duty cycle question for the experts.  On page 1 of the manual (page 7 of pdf document) it lists the duty cycle of the s-32p 8 as 500 amps 100% duty cycle and the s-32p 12 at 260amps 60% duty cycle.  Why would the smaller version have a higher duty cycle?  It doesn't really matter for me because 260 amps at 60% is good enough for my welder/generator, but why the discrepancy?thanksfarmer2http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o1545j_mil.pdf
Reply:The 32-8 doesn't have a contacter or a gas solenoid. The contacter on the 32-12 must have a lower amprating. Reply:I've had my 32p for 15 years and didn't know what the amps were on it. I did when I got it. Never missed a beat. I was looking at the others but haven't studied up on them. If this one dies for some reason I'd buy another one just like it. The only difference is I'd get the blue case. Unless one of the newer units has a pulse mode on it. That would be worth it...I guess. I see the new units are around $1800 and up. Reply:Without a contactor your wire is always HOT .  As far as duty cycle usally whatever gun you are using would almost always be the weak link. Reply:Ok thats what I thought on the contactor (mine has it).  good point on the cable.
Reply:I'm thinking 500 amps and .045 wire. Hell yeah. o...and 150 amp gun. Farmer2 yes that's what the contactor does. Reply:I forgot to ask. What did you do to your back? Fighting Ninjas, rescuing orphans? or like me slipped on the ice. I busted my donkey the other day. One of those deals it took 30-40 seconds to actually hit the ground. I think I hurt myself worse doing the catch my balance dance long before hitting the ground. Hope you get better quick. Reply:Farmers2, it has happened to me  3 times. The first time like you said needed help getting up. After 3-4 days got better, from what doc said Age(52 ) and weak back muscles. If standing you can not see your belt buckle,start walking and exercise and limit intake. I am 5' 9" and 190 lbs and need to lose some weight.Rest  and take care
