I want to try a spoolgun with my Ironman230 for welding some aluminum handrails on pontoon boats, I have a tig welder that I use already but view this as a challenge.I know the gun Hobart calls for is around $600, this unit sells for $150 with 20 foot of cable and correct connectors Has anyone tried one of these from China offered on e bay? I figure someone here must have tried this unit? Thanks in advance for any commentsReposted here!
Reply:China is where the Hobart / Miller ones come from. Probably the same manufacturer. Most feed motors are 24v so easy to splice into your feed motor wires. I can explain how its done with a 3 wire toggle switch if interested. The answer to your question is yes you can easily make this spoolgun work. Caution on one types of spoolgun on Ebay. It doesn't take our standard spools. You have to spool your own onto their spool. Very inexpensive if you don't mind manually spooling.Thermal Arc 320SP ( Lorch )Cobra PythonsThermal Arc 300 AC/DC ( Sanrex )ESAB 301i AC/DC ( Lorch )Thermal Arc 161STL ( WTL )Thermal Arc 190S ( Sanrex )Cut Master 82, 42. Reply:That’s great news Rondo, any help you can provide will be much appreciated, I don’t mind spooling my own wire. I can always use my TIG machine, I really just want to try a spoolgun but really don’t want to spend $600 bucks to give it a try. Thanks again for your input! Cheers
Reply:I will go ahead and purchase the spoolgun and keep you posted Rondo, thanks again for your input! I never realized I would have to wind my own spools but no big deal
