Anyone else purchase tig parts on eBay? I have had great success with large lots. Just make sure you order well in advance as they take about 3 weeks on the China boat.

Reply:I've had good luck. It's important that you buy a reputable brand to begin with.I needed a particular tig torch for a project that I was working on. Just the torch head, not the cables, etc.I was kind of in a hurry, but whatever the shipping time is, it is. I wasn't going to pay extra shipping to expedite faster shipping.I ended up ordering one from Amazon, although it was not shipped from the Amazon warehouse, but from the another store. It was $27.00.Then, I found the same torch on Ebay, out of China, for $11.00. So, I ordered that one, too. They were both ordered the same day.The Amazon one arrived about 10 days after ordering. The one from China arrived the next day. So, getting stuff from China doesn't take that long.Rich

Reply:Import collets or collet bodies tend to be soft copper. I only go for USA made tellurium alloyed collets and collet bodies myself. I like Weldtec brand. Yes twice as much, but last 20 times longer. The other stuff seems to be good like ceramic cups, but CK makes the thinnest and hold up very well. I really hate the thickwall import stuff but they seem to work pretty good. I have had varied results with import tungstens. But I still buy old/new stock off ebay, as well as 2% lanthanated from HTP/USAweld.The import torches, only made in USA as well. CK again wins, with TecTorch a close second.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I buy almost all business products on eBay. Had good luck with welding products and I don't have to pay that Amazon markup. Key is to remember that you still get what you pay for - if its too good to be true its probably junk.

Reply:I always check eBay, Amazon, sometimes (depending on what it is in specific) Enco or a handful of other go-to sellers, Harbor Freight (a hit-and-miss proposition - both quality wise and in what they carry) and Google for what I'm looking for - sometimes my intuition on where the best price is to be found is in error.Depending on the specific item in question I may or may not be willing to go cheap and buy a generic (often made in China) version of it. For example; I found the Harbor Freight version of flux-core wire to be unworkable (and now only use Lincoln Innershield); but their mig contact tips worked OK. I don't have my plasma cutter operational yet (lack of a suitable compressor) so I don't have any experience comparing cheap consumables for that vs. the OEM ones. |
