Reply:more likehttp://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...9774_200199774price is 75$my only concern is that it is just complete **** I dont mind nursing a cheaper saw a little since im not going to be giving it a ton of use but if it will just burn out right away then better to not buy it at all.
Reply:My motto is buy the extended warranty and use all the good out of it!  I have the cheapo harbor freight that I bought for $59.00 on sale.  I purchased a good blade and have had good luck, but take it easy.I have an inside track coupon for this one for $59.00http://www.harborfreight.com/2-hp-14...saw-91938.html
Reply:go with sears it has a laser and a cast base, not stamped steel Attached Images
Reply:I never touched my abrasive saw again after getting a cold cut saw.  In your shoes, I'd save up for the one Sean Murphy linked to.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:If the Northern cold saw is like the Porter Cable  1410 then the description at Northern:"Cuts with razor-sharp precision without sparks, smoke or slag. No deburring or milling needed. Requires no coolant; material stays cool to the touch. Metal chip collector keeps work area clean. On-board wrench storage for quick blade changes."http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...6857_200326857is misleading. The porter Cable does make some sparks, the metal being cut will turn orange hot under the blade, 45 angles cuts creep in the vice,  there are burrs, the noise level is like 100 demons scratching claws on a blackboard, razor sharp slivers of metal are thrown around the work area. There is no slag, and it is probably better than an abrasive wheel (never used one). It is not one of those dead silent serious expensive cold saws shown at industrial trade shows.Best to use common sense before doing anything shown above.
Reply:Yeah,A REAL cold saw is an awesome machine.I still use the chop saw for thin tube, rebar and misc. junk type stuff.Sorry for the no help on your question, just the "cold saw" thing gets me.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Deacon, what kind of blade are you using?  I use inexpensive Freud Diablo blades with my Milwaukee cold cut saw (6190-20), and there are no sparks, no heat, and no issues.  You might have a dull or defective blade? Here's a video I've posted before.  This is a high-rpm circular saw with a Freud Diablo metal-cutting blade.  This is 5000 rpm as opposed to the much better 1400 rpm of a cold cut saw.  There are some sparks, but nothing like an abrasive saw.  I'm cutting 3/16" steel.  It was the first time I'd ever tried cutting steel this way.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Jack Olsen:Thanks for that video, my saw and/or blade is way way worse than yours. The blade is the one that came on it, the saw is not here at the moment so I cannot check. I would be glad if the problem was a bad blade.Regards,DeaconBest to use common sense before doing anything shown above.
Reply:more and more I look at it the more im thinking of just saving up fo one of those. Dealing with the dopes on crags list is getting anoying to. Make an offer on a saw guy writes back that im crazy this is a such and such saw worth this much yack yack yack.  might have been new but its worth this much to me take it or leave it and save the attitude for some one who cares.
