Looking for pictures and ideas of your methods to effectively and efficiently store, organize, and transfer your cut pieces to the welding table! I make a lot of furniture frames, so most of it involves cutting square tube on a cold saw, then flat stock on the band saw, then drilling holes in the flat stock, then off the the table. But i typically cut all the matrials for 10-15 frames at a time so it gets to be a hassle carrying them back to the table one frame at a time. Plus all the pieces get set on the other welding table so only one person can be welding at a time when the other table fills up. Cut pieces range in length from 2" all the way up to 72". Though only lengths up to 40" are seen on a regular basis.John 3:16(2) Miller Pheonix 456(2) Millermertic 252Dynasty 210DXHobart 210MVPDoringer D350 SA Cold SawScotchman 350LT Cold SawWebb 10x50 MillWebb 15x40 LatheGeka Bendicrop Ironworker
Reply:I know you don't have a lot of room, but a sturdy cart to stage the pieces on might work. You could even weld up some quick dividers to separate the sets of pieces.Just a thoughtExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948

Reply:Pallets and forklift.
Reply:pallets and forklift if you have them.  I would have my guys pallet and label everything when i worked in a large shop (of course, we would saw material anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks before fabricating).  In the small shop i work in now, carts work well.AWS CWI xxxx21711968 SA200  Originally Posted by WelderMike  I hate being bipolar, It's awesome.
Reply:Back strength and a hand truck..OR....2 ton hoists that travel the length and width of the shop.LOTS of lifting chains and hooks in all different lengths and sizes along with every sling you can imagine....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The frames only consist of 4 pieces each, and weigh about 20 pounds. It's not a weight issue. I was hoping someone had a genious idea about a cart that would do exactly what I wanted it to do!John 3:16(2) Miller Pheonix 456(2) Millermertic 252Dynasty 210DXHobart 210MVPDoringer D350 SA Cold SawScotchman 350LT Cold SawWebb 10x50 MillWebb 15x40 LatheGeka Bendicrop Ironworker
Reply:A cart with sectioned areas would be great Evan.Even an old shopping cart with the front removed and some racking built in and on top of it would separate the material and not be very big. You're gonna want a vertical solution. I know you're pretty tight for space in your shop. Cubby style spots for the shorter pieces, a lumber style upper rack for the long stuff. Almost like bins on a vertical or tilted plane. Fill them up with your pre cut pieces, grab what you need and lay them out on your tables.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Just regular shopping carts work awesome for cut parts, as a bonus they're free
Reply:my first project 8 years ago was making tables at band-saw roller height. i think 2' X 5' and made of 2x2x1/8" L with bracing near the wheels and diagonals from bottom to top. material goes from saw to table, deburred while the next piece cuts, and is just stacked according to build on the roll tables until it could get to a fab benchbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:Drums pails and 60 ton cranes works for us 1-1/4 grade 80 chains too.
Reply:I do more woodworking in my garage, welding is usually farm repair jobs than anything. However I acquired a shopping cart from a grocery store that was being torn down and I use it for the same purposes you are describing.  It's the old kind, the rack is up high and not real deep and the front folds down.  A handy booger for sure.
Reply:I have two welding tables, both on wheels. I just roll one by the saw and use it for staging.
Reply:Flat surface on wheels.  Maybe dividers to separate the different size pieces.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. You may pick two.Hobart AC/DC StikMate LXHarbor Freight AD HoodHarbor Freight Industrial Chop SawDeVilbis 20 Gallon, 5 HP Compressor
Reply:I do furniture as well.  I use sturdy carts for smaller parts.  I'm looking into installing an I beam with a trolley and hoist for big heavy parts.  You might also consider roller tables so you can just slide the parts on down to the welding area.  This is where shop layout can really help or hurt your efficiency.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
