I'm Having a little trouble with the bottom welding 9 chrome. I'm practicing on 2" xxheavy wall. Using 3/32 rod @ about 85 amps. The cap looks pretty good except for the bottom. The bottom is a little lumpy with some cold lap. I don't have this problem with carbon so I am wondering if there's a different technique on chrome. Also looking for any advice on welding 9 chrome as I am fairly new to this.
Reply:turn up the heat if you're getting cold lap. and preheat to at least 350*F
Reply:I'll try that out in the morning. Maybe 90-95 amps ?
Reply:I've never seen the need to weld anything 3/32" stick over 90 amps much less something like 9 chrome. To hot. Sorry I can't give you particulars as we tig all of our 9 9 chrome.
