I was recently hired to a new position that will be welding mainly clear anodized aluminum. I have never welded on this type of material and I was told it is rough and  very different.  I watched a YouTube video on doing this using "bump" welding. But it looks very time consuming. And tips I should know and things to expect when welding clear anodized aluminum?Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
Reply:What type of welder will you be using? I've been successful with a Miller Dynasty 350 using the Pulse feature off top of my head it was .125" wall, 190amp, 190hz freq and 350-400pps balance around 75%, peak 50, background 70. Its been awhile... LolWhen I do fittings or bungs for automotive applications I generally just remove as much of the coating as possible then weld them in. I use a. 56xx series rod as well.I've heard of he bump method but have never tried or been taught it, but there are some good guys on here that will point you in the right direction.Did they make you take a test before they hired you?Last edited by Rick_H; 03-28-2014 at 09:54 AM.
Reply:Not sure on the welder. Haven't seen it yet. I start this coming Monday. Isn't pulse welding pretty much the same as bump welding? Except the machine does the pulsing for you while you just use an off/on switch for bump?Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
Reply:I just grind it off and weld as normal. I'm sure pulsing it would be faster, but I'm relatively new
