You can't build a good set of forks for what you can buy them for, if you can come onto a good deal, or fair deal.Nice used forks set up for skid steer quick attach, just need mods to fit my quick attach setup on my loader. This is really the way to go.  Fabricating forks is generally not very safe, and can cost as much as used stuff that's made for what it's intended to do."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:That's cheating, Samm.  I was hoping to see a homemade induction heater and bending setup.  Skip to 0:45 in video to see it come out of the heater and get bent (obviously this is in a real factory somewhere):http://www.uihm.com/en/Video/inducti...-350AB-MF.html
Reply:If you are in the Dallas area Garland Steel will let you wander through their scrap piles.  There you will find all kinds of fork lift forks.  If you go through one area you will find lots of different sizes and styles and not all of them that look alike match up.  So be careful. In another area you will find dismantled forklifts, or forklifts about to be dismantled for scrap.  They usually have quite a few battery powered units, some of them with the extendable forks that you see in warehouses.  You can buy the whole assembly by the pound. Two things to keep in mind.  The first is that most scrap yards have an agreement with their customers to melt down everything and nothing is sold out of the yard.  A lot of scrap yards adhere to that policy but most don't.  So some of the stuff you have a chance to purchase is perfectly good but was scrapped for other reasons.  The other thing is scrap yards love cash, especially on stuff like this.  You can usually get at least a fifty percent discount if you are willing to whip out the cash and get down to some serious dickering.I used to be able to buy a pair of forks on a chassis at Garland Steel for about a hundred dollars, cash.  I would then build an attach plate and friends would have a set of forks for their skid steer or small tractor for a fraction of what they cost at the dealer.life is good
Reply:I thought this was going to be about something to eat with, then move on to how to build a set of spoons.

Reply:I've seen used ones go for $50/set, take one or all, at a local auction house and the winning bidder often takes all. That of course would hold true until I wanted/needed a set and then they'd go for 10X that. Reply:What ever happened with this fork build thread Samm? Are you still going to do this, but at a later time?
Reply:I don't think he ever intended on building any.  He bought some.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
