Recently bought a table of "welding stuff" at auction. Most is stuff I can use, which is why I got it. Some has me stumped. Hopefully, the collective experience here can help me out.Apparently torch related is a brass-looking cone shaped part labeled National Welding 13102074Something corroded looking labeled National Mixer 50-MA 52-MA PAT 1882420which seems permanently attached to a tip labeled National G-1 PAT 1958085I also ended up with Harris Stay-Silv 15 silver bronze alloy and some copper braze labeled 101 Ag Alloy. Are either of these useable with a propane torch (no oxy)? Will 1016-D2, 11018M, 6012, or 3081-16 work with AC?Is there an easy way to identify mystery rod? It's about 4mm thick (rod, not flux) and old and grey. It probably got damp at some point. There is no readable stamp on the rod anymore. Thanks in advance for what help you can provide.
Reply:Don't sound like you got much of a bargain. You had better not of given much for those welding rods.If they are not sealed, but damp and crumbly, they are worthless. Can you get some pics up.Than we can appraise them.~JohnJust a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:metal sticks of some sort, not sure what they areCopper brazemystery rod that might be useable?Mystery rod that is likely unusable for anythingAnother mystery part, new in bag
Reply:Not sure what this is, labeled National Welding 13102074Mostly all 10016-D2Two parts stuck together, presumably part of a torch set upNickel alloy for cast (these seemed to arc fine on steel in my untrained hands)
Reply:Not sure what the orange-coated stuff is, looks like some sort of coating around the same brazing rodMore 100166010 in terrible condition, useless to me anywayMixed together to make life more interesting
Reply:Tips and chipping hammersSorry it took so long to post the pics. The 6013 and nickel both seemed to arc nicely when I tried them the other day. The lot came with two fixed hoods, too (not that I needed them, but who's complaining). The red packs are mostly 6013.Last edited by notso; 04-05-2014 at 06:20 PM.

Reply:Those 10016 rod should be 100,000 psi tensile, all position, i dont think its a high deposition but is used for thick steel.Should work on AC or DCEP.I would use them like a hard facing rod.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Reply:That stay silv in todays market is about $3.00 per stick. It was a buck a stick in the old days and then around $50 a pound. There are 26 sticks to the pound. How much did you spend ? If not too nosy.

Reply:You did ok.That wasn't a bad buy....Try and salvage some of those stick rods.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:You did fine, the Stay-Silv and the Nickel cast iron rod are worth that by themselves. The torch tips in the first pic in post # 6 look like they fit the mixing chamber in post #4. Now to find a handle that fits them...The steel electrodes (8010 and 10016) look like obsolete junk. Scrap them. The rods in the Eutectic boxes may be worth something. Any numbers on them?JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps

Reply:The greenish rods and possibly the orange ones are likely flux coated brazing rods they are still useable but you might want to dry them and use additional flux.---Meltedmetal
