Hey all I am building a trailer out of 3/16 angle and I am using  fluxcore lincoln nr211 mp .045 diameter, I tried recommended settings and can't seem to get good weld or penetration I also. Have porosity was using 19v 115 wfs please help

Reply:On Lincoln's chart it lowers volts and wfs as wire gets bigger but with solid wire as it gets bigger you use more volts
Reply:I do a lot of solid wire mig and stick bt first time I have to use fluxcore

Reply:I can't even begin to help without a picture. Most of the time I have to be able to touch something to really see it. This was that 30-year old rusty .068” NR-211MP. First pass, and the settings. If you can post a picture, I might be able to help. Reply:I'm new to this welding game. But in my opinion, these charts are all fine and dandy. To me they are just suggestions! There are so many variables, I can't possibly wrap my mind around all of them. So for me, I adjust the welder, and wire feeder to suit me for what I'm trying to do. In short, I do what ever the puddle requires. I don't sweat the small stuff.  Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:DOES ANYBODY EVER TAKE THE TIME TO READ PRODUCT MANUALS/DESCRIPTIONS????!!!NR-211MP is not formulated for seismic welding.  It's not Charpy rated.  IN OTHER WORDS.....................IT MAKES NON DUCTILE BRITTLE WELDSIt ain't the stuff to use for anything subject to vibration or twisting, and will not survive high impact loads. If you're going to use wire, use Dual Shield."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:First it's "building" a trailer, then "fixing" some broken welds.  Which is it?????Fixing.........maybe.  Building..........no"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:With FCAW, you should drag,to avoid slag in the weld. With MIG, you push for better penetration. Im just a hobby guy but thats what I read in a LINCOLN Electric book somewhere.

Reply:Well then, I guess thats debatable. Im a LINCOLN man so I will stick with push for better penetration.BTW, Lanse did an experiment testing push vs. pull penetration. Can you guess what delivered better penetration?  Hint: Lincoln is correct.Beware of false information.Last edited by Insaneride; 04-04-2014 at 10:04 AM.Reason: False information
Reply:Some of the self shielded wires can be hard to get a trend on as far as wire size/feed/amps. With the solid wires there are some trends ans far as feed speed vs amps vs diameter that you can kind of get a grip on but these flux cores seem to have some anomalies that make it to where you really should take a quick look at each brand and each size of each brand before you take off running it. Or just tune to sight and sound. Reply:I stand corrected again.  Them Miller_MIG boys know there stuf. The xplanation I got was: dragging aims the arc at the puddle and causes deeper penetration. It seems that those who could xplain it preferred to push and said it was just a matter of what worked best. It seems that deeper penetration does not necesarilly yield better welds. If it did, Im sure them Tigr's would drag instead of push. All I wanted to do was point out that FlyingJ should drag FCAW if he wasnt already doing so.Last edited by Insaneride; 04-05-2014 at 09:53 AM.Reason: Beware of blind knowledge
Reply:Anything that produces slag I try my best to drag. But as we all know sometimes you have to weld in all directions. Attached ImagesDon’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Self shielded flux core is run constant voltage straight polarity. On a cc/cv machine voltage is set @ the machine & remains fairly constant @ the gun depending on the size/length & condition of your cables/Quick connects etc. Amperage is determined by wire feed speed & length of stick out
Reply:So it  should look and sound  more like stick then mig ?

Reply:I rarely use lincolns wire anymore but I do run either Hobarts T-11 or a brand called Weldcote (weldcoat?) in .045. Always run the voltages down around 16 to 18. Pretty wide sweet spot as far as the feed speed goes. If you've noticed the slag coverage on these wires is fairly light. From a slight layer to sometimes nothing more than a dust cover. Start getting the voltage and/or the voltage to feed speed ratio way out and you'll lose that slag coverage and start getting porous crappy colored beads. I generally run a fairly close electrical stick out and contact tip to work distance. Probably little closer than you should. I go for the hiss sound. It runs sweet enough tho that you can pull way back if you need to. Pretty forgiving. Lincolns is not so much so forgiving."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
