This might a silly question, but what would be clear indication the cable liner needs replacing? Ditto for the gas diffuser tip and the gun nozzle?I'm new to welding and purchased a used but in-good-condition SP-125 Plus. No problems, I just wanted to know what to look for so any maintenance can be performed proactively. The manual discusses things in general but didn't mention specifically what to watch for. Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away. And you have their shoes.Roland
Reply:If the wire isn't feeding properly or you see cuts, kinks, or other damage in the hose then you should replace the parts needed, but if all is working good then you should be fine. I remove my liner every once and a while and check it and blow out any dirt which maybe there. You should get some tips to as you will use a few while welding. Sometimes the wire will stick in the tip from an arc or splatter sticking to the tip causing you to need a replacement. This can be common especially when learning to weld. Also it is a good idea to get some anti splatter paste. While the tip is hot, just push the tip in the paste a little. Helps make the tip last longer and keep the gas flowing.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:Thanks jamlit. I've got a good supply of contact tips on hand - from what I've read I expected to burn through these babies while I'm cutting my teeth. Thanks for the suggesting on removing and blowing out the liner. I don't know if the previous owner had done that. I'll assume not and just go ahead and do it.As to the anti-spatter gel, I've got some and have been using but am curious. It melts onto the workpiece while you're welding - is it easy to clean up and does it have any affect on paints/coatings/finishes applied afterward? Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Reply:Burn back and birdnesting at the feed rolls is a good sign that any of the noted items need to be checked, all other suggestions are good ones.  JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :

Reply:Roland, burn back if when the wire burns back into the contact tip.  This can be caused by Feed rolls not tight enough, worn out, wire inlet or outlet guides into and out of the feed rolls, not being in alignment, liner being dirty, liner being crimped, to much tension on the spool of wire, not letting it turn freely, contact tip being to small or worn out.  I'm sure there a few more I have overlooked.  Hope this helps.  JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
