I recently bought an old Lincoln welder/generator for 50 dollars when I tore into it I found that there was no brushes so i bought new brushes then tested still no power my father put his meter on it and it seams that armature is blown.I was wondering if you guys know how much an armature might cost. Or even a place to look at for the cost of them.I'am going to call a couple places on Monday maybe to get it rewound or even buy a new one but was wondering about prices.the code # for the Lincoln is 8705 and serial # is A-999821
Reply:Good morning, Is this your welder? If so, you have a rotor with two slip rings. A replacement unit would probably cost about 375.00.http://www.flickr.com/photos/weldersales/2172292546/http://www.flickr.com/photos/welders...n/photostream/This engine is the single cylinder Briggs & Stratton. Thanks, weldersales
Reply:This time I'm not quite sure enough to offer to eat any misdiagnosis; but so far the vibes are saying it's not rotor failure. Those slip-rings and brushes carry very little current, compared to a DC generator; seems like failure would be fairly rare.Any idea what the meter readings that condemn the rotor, were?
