Long story short, I finally left the car game to take a position doing fab and welding for a machine shop. Included are some pictures of recent work. I don't really get a chance to snap pictures so that's all for now. Good to be back! Attached Images
Reply:Looks good, what size is that material and what settings did you use? What is that frame for?
Reply:The frame is a loader for a pipe straightener that I had to remove 10 inches out of. And it's all 2" or 1" squares stock of varying thickness. The loader was actually very thin so I had to take it very easy, where as the rack with 2 and 1 inch was much thicker and more forgiving. I use scrap and whatever I can get my hands on so it's always a new adventure.
Reply:Added the feet for some wheels. Had to drill out 16 3/8" plates on a mill this morning. That took a while.
Reply:Looks good, how do you like the change of life style. Pluses and minuses of this kind of work? Was there a welding test for the new job? If so what? Are you expected to do very much machining? Is the welding all mig or is it a mix? Thanks
Reply:I like change so I am enjoying it, the hours were hard to adjust to. I did 8-5 for 15 years and now I go in at 6. No welding test, they just needed somebody that could weld after the old welder had a stroke and went on disability. I do *some* machining but I honestly just do whatever they want. And it's usually not machining. There are 25 machinists and one welder so I stay pretty busy with that. And it's just mig for now but I'm looking for a tig setup at a price that could sway my employer.

Reply:This is pretty much the last piece for the loader, I spent the rest of today assembling it, adding missing parts and finding what seemed like 100 grease fittings.
Reply:They worked me today. Damn. Fabbed, cut and welded 1 loader out of 3 old ones. Motor, controller and electrical was ran, set up completed. Completely operational on the shop floor by 5. Only this one weld pic for now but I will get a picture of the whole operation on Tuesday to give you a better idea of what the hell I'm talking about.
Reply:This is obviously not from my shop, but same thing pretty much. |
