Im making up a clutch operating crank, consisting of a 16mm shaft welled to 6mm thick operating arm.I dont own a TIG or MIG would i be able weld this using oxy acetylene..?Thanks,Norm.
Reply:Sure. #6 Victor tip and 3/32 R45 rod.Personally, just use a coated brazing rod and braze it for that application.#5 or 6 tip.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:+1 on brazing. Yes! you can absolutely use OA for that.Kevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:If you are joining ordinary steel, brazing is easier, probably fine for what you want to do.If you really need to weld it, back when I was starting out and didn't own an arc welder we welded a lot of stuff with O/A using a coat hanger for a filler rod. Suggest you obtain a small diameter welding rod, clean the flux off of it and use that for a filler rod. Practice on scrap piece first until you get the technique down, adjust your O/A torch to a neutral flame. I took a look at your shop and projects over at the garage journal website http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=122188Some very nice work and some nice equipment. You seem to need to discover welding, you could really put an aluminum capable tig and plasma cutter to good use.
