Reply:Question about old SA200"sLast year for short hood? 1956!st and last year's of the red face. This is complicated. What most people refer to as 'red face' is a copper generator which stopped with the approx. 1972 machine which used octagonal cross section generator and aluminum field coils. Several of the copper machines with round generators had black nameplates, such as the 1969. The 1957 model had a black face as did several others that would otherwise qualify as 'red face'.weldersaleslast year for the hand crank. Complicated again. Some Lincolns had no electrical starter and hand crank was all they had. You could still buy SA200's without starters up in the 60's and even the 70's, I think. We used to put electrical systems on some of these that were bought, I think, in the 70's by one particular company that had the habit of putting decals on their machines that said ' do not start with foot'. Would love to have seen that. In any case, all these machines, whether starters or not, had cranks that fit into the holders on the lifting bale and fittings to accommodate crank on crankshaft end. weldersales__________________
Reply:thanks for the info, so, in all reality, any 200 with copper windings could be called a red face, by putting a "red" face on it. I know it's not that simple, but everyone seem's to put a lot of stock in a red face. I was just trying to get some info on them Again, Weldersales, thanks for the infothe gorilla that made it hold Ranger 8 15 yrs old SP150 mig 25 yrs old several Victor sets Snap On 130 mig 25 yrs old Lincoln 225 buzz box SA200 F163 78 mdl they all work just added a Idealarc 250/250

Reply:I used sa200's starting with early 60's models all the way up until they quit making them. Red face, black face, some so old the colors were gone, and they all welded the same. Had an old 1970 on my rig and everyone else had classics or classic II's. None of them could touch it. My boss once remarked all these high dollar new machines and this one here is the best one I have. Personally I think the red face/blackface/short hood/long hood bit is just so much hooey. They all weld like a lincoln. And that is what lincoln is known for.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist. |
