Reply:I cant see any logic installing two vises in one stand..but the client want it that way..
Reply:One vise for the tall guy and the other vise for Mini Me.
Reply:Nice looking welds, and project idea.Good judgement comes from experience.Experience comes from bad judgement.
Reply:Looks awesome... But I don't get the little vise either lol.
Reply:I wonder if the main vise is for working while standing up and the lower one is for working while sitting down in a chair.  Personally when using a file to fish-mouth or do small detail things I like to sit in a chair to be more comfortable.Miller Dynasty 200 DXBuildPro TMA52238 (38" x 22")Miller MP-10 & Jackson Nexgen EQC20 Ton Press & Swag HD Press Brake
Reply:COOL !   I like the small vise mounted on there too. Added some balance and another handy vise. You can never have too many vices.
Reply:Nice work, and nice looking welds.

Reply:Very nice welds. Seems like it would be pretty sturdy. Nice work.
Reply:It seems like the base would constantly be in the way. Anyone actually use something like this? It also seems like you would be incredibly limited on making the most use of the vise.
Reply:Very nice, heavy duty.

Reply:One thing i do when using a truck rim for a base is putting 3 equally spaced tabs on the bottom edge so it wont rock on an uneven floor. And a 1/2" conveyor belt mat makes it a bunch quieter.

Reply:A lotta people never get around to using a vise to its full capacity anyway. Especially if they didn't have a vise to start with. These stands make a great outside vise for folks with little or no shop space. Sharpening mower blades, holding  doodads while they drill it, or shwack it with a hammer. Five gallon bucket is the cover. Turn it upside down and put about three bags of ready mix in there.  I like an outside vise for those days I just don't feel like being inside and out of touch with planet earth. Reply:Beautiful post vise there Sandy. Leg looks shorter than most smaller ones. How big is the width of the jaws?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Not a vise stand, but the same design as seen in here for a grinder stand I built. I added a bit of angle and some castors so it is a heavy stable platform yet is easy to move around.-Spike
Reply:Originally Posted by SandyI cut not quite six inches out of the leg down close to the bottom. Seems like a terrible thing to do but that stand was built for another vise so the height was set. T

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWBig post vises like that in nice condition are tough to find. I see plenty of 4" ones but a nice 6" is really tough. If you ever do that to an 8" post vise I'm going to come out there and hurt you and take them both home with me where they won't be abused like that any more...    A lot of the bigger ones I've seen are typically shorter since they were made to hold larger pieces so blacksmiths can beat on them. Most small post vises usually are set up so the jaws are at about 30" roughly IIRC. Bigger ones designed for striking heavy items have shorter legs so that the height is a bit lower for guys doing sledge work on heavier material. At least it doesn't look like you simply whacked off the bottom, but cut out a section and welded it back up. It looks like it's in nice shape, take care of it.
