I live in an older home so we only have 1 220 line and that is for the stove.  Obviously I can't unplug the stove to weld so I was looking at getting an 8750Peak/7k Running generator to run my 220v 175amp MIG welder.  This is just for me to do extra practice from school so it wont be used constantly or hard.   Would that generator be strong enough to keep up?Last edited by Jellyroll; 08-30-2015 at 02:10 AM.
Reply:it might be cheaper to put in a 220 line for welding off the main panel box...and not worry about running a generator and ongoing expenses as gas and oil, unless you need  a generator for other uses...Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:You'll have to make an adaptor cord to connect the welder to the generators twist lock plug, but other than that it will do it just fine.My "collection":Homemade Stick WelderVictor O/A TorchAC 225Ideal Arc 250HF 90 Amp Flux CoreHF Mig 170Solar 2020 Plasma CutterPower i-Mig 140EHarris O/A torchHF Dual Mig 131140STAlpha Tig 200x
Reply:i only paid 200 bucks to have a 220 ran in my garage. pretty cheap, and will make it much more convenient in the long run.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold

Reply:You can even just tap off the stove line if you want to Red Green it. Just make sure momma's not cooking when you are or your gonna trip the breaker. Just put in a dedicated breaker, rarely do you not have room in your panel. Just run a line to wherever you need it. You could wire 50amp outlets all over the house for less than a generator.Sent from my SCH-I605 using TapatalkRyanMiller Multimatic 200 tig/spool gun/wireless remoteMillermatic 350P, Bernard/XR Python gunsMiller Dynasty 350, Coolmate 3.5 & wireless remoteCK WF1 TIG wire feederMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeOptrel e684Miller Digital EliteMiller Weld-Mask
Reply:I ran my Hobart 210 off of a 8000 watt continuous generator for about 10 hours before it killed the generator I took it into the repair shop and they said it had fired the generator head and would not be cost effective to repair it. If I had to do it again I would make sure it is under warranty. Reply:1, the box is as old 40 years+, 2, the wiring is older (1951)  So I don't want to push my luck.  In order to get another 220 line it would be 1500$ because they HAVE to update the box.  The generator would be re-purposed for camping and emergency once we move and I have an actual shop to do all this lol.
