SA-200 Spring Starter

I have to work on this one. It will allow me to trash the battery and generator/ alternator off of an SA-200. You wind it with a crank and then pull a trip lever and the engine starts.I know that you are thinking that an SA-200 has a place to start it with a crank, but this is a lot easier and safer.You can get these for all kinds of equipment, even large stuff.They are very popular in remote locations, and in the Third World.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:I've never seen one of those before.It does sound like a great idea for remote locations where charging the battery or getting a jump would be impossible.  I'm sure it would work great most of the time, but winding a strong spring by hand to get a quick spin of the engine could get pretty strenuous if the engine is even slightly hard to start.  If you decide to go with it, I hope it works well for you.Cheers,Bob

Reply:Something I learned from working on snowmobiles and My dads HAND CRANK Lincoln.  If it doesn't fire right up, find the problem and FIX IT.  That is the first one of those I have ever seen.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

I don't have one in my hands just yet, but it is a little back burner project of mine. Being the cheepo guy I am I was hoping to find one on an old fire pump or marine engine or something. Who knows though, if this is a good season, and I make a big wad of Ben Franklins I just might bite the bullet and buy a new one.The come in all standard SAE starter mountings, and come large enough to start a 12 liter diesel.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:nah... never seen that in a 3rd world junkies...We usually work in a professional project environment not some forestry outpost... we change the battery size to anything above 100 Amp for kicking power and have a good jumper cable... On site you will have 8 welding machine, we will have a standby battery for luck.If you want no maintance problem... change yur battery to Optima 800 CCA. Cold cranking Amp.Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
