Hey guys, I just aquired a weldanpower 225.  I downloaded the parts and owners manual, but have a few questions about a machine like this.  I havnt ran the machine yet, I need to get some leads for it.  I was told it welds good, I turned the polarity control switch and felt it engaging in all 3 positions, the amp control clicked into all the positions and the fine control moved smoothly.  The switches are a little difficult to move since the machine was outside for a while.  Any way to free them up?  Any parts I should think about changing before I start to really weld with it since it hasnt been ran in a few months?
Reply:The power switch?If so that one is a spring loaded trip switch.  It will be rather hard to "flip" when you use it a spring is compressed and at a certain point the release is tripped and the contacts moved open or closed nice and fast.Pop the top and look under the hood if you don't see any major corrosion you should be all set!Fire it up and burn some rod!Me!

Reply:I too have the same or similar machine.  Its sitting out back as a back up generator for my home.The positive clicks on the selectors are a good thing.  Make sure its in the detent.  I have had 2 problems with the controls since I bought the machine new in '87.  Once some one ELSE was using it and dind't get the selector in the detent, so it burnt up.  $90.00 later I installed a new amp selector switch.   A few years ago the fine control seized up.  I could not get a replacement, so I took it apart and cleaned it up and lubed where the shaft goes through.I too have had fuel problems, they were solved with a HUGE fuel filter in the line with a loop so all the water and junk collects in the bottom of the loop where the fuel filter is.I made a LOT of money with that machine.  I now have a ranger 250.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Figured out this ones from 87/88.  It has the 16hp briggs one it, I have to mount the gas tank and wait for the leads to come in.  Its in pretty rough shape so I think some paint is due.  Price was right tho, free.
Reply:I've got the Onan powered version.  It ran 14 hours continuous last week during a power outage.  Power is clean enough to run this computer or any other electric\electronic devise in my house.  Like David R, it has paid for itself many times over since '86.  Sure I'd love to have a Ranger 250 GXT but this one has served me well for so long, I hate to get rid of it.  Plus, having a shiny new machine, some of my customers would get the idea I was overcharging them to afford it.  A matter of perception, really.Last edited by 69 chevy; 03-07-2008 at 08:19 PM.
Reply:a lot of the newer machines have some really nice features.  They guy I got this one from showed me his new trail blazer.  It had a gas guage and a bunch of other little toys.  Really nice stuff.

Reply:I found the manual and parts book for mine right on the lincoln website.  I took the model number (stamped on the front of the machine), put it in a google search and it came up in pdf format.
