advice to a new guy...what is the best all around used Miller mig welder I should

consider buying?  No offense to other brands of welders.Would it be the Miller 180 or the 210?  My situation is as follows:  I have have done some research on the forums and it seems the 220 volt machine using gas is the better way to go.  The problem is I need a machine I can plug into my garage and one I can take out to an open field where I have other projects.  Neighbors are quick to frown on me bringing this stuff home so a friend lets me keep a roller chassis at his empty lot (no electric there).Can I get a 220 volt generator to run the welder outdoors, but more than than will the shielding gas be disturbed too much in mildly windy conditions.....can you make some kind of wind screen if I find out it will effect the shielding gas too much?How many watts would either of these machines need from a gas generator?  Thanks for any help.
Reply:I would go for a 211, it's probably the best MIG in its class, and perfect for a hobbyist or fab shop. Can use 120 or 240v input power and welds from 24ga to 5/16" easily. We run our 211 from a 6500 watt Ridgid generator in the field and it works quite well. Shielding gas can be a little difficult to deal with outdoors, you can bump the gas flow up a bit to help, as well as create windblocks with welding blankets or sheets of plywood propped up.
