I just picked up a new grinder today. I needed a more powerful machine to grind off some beads with a snagging wheel, so I got a makita 9564cv because it had the highest amp rating I could find. It does the job. And I am pleasantly surprised to see that it's "assembled in USA". Attached ImagesIan TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:Once u use a hi amp grinder u will never want to go back to a lower one.  I have the the 10 amp dewalt had to change to quality grinder discs as the HF 4 1/2 iscs last about a minute in that grinderTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Damn 4130, I thought you were OK till I saw you were a Kawi man.  I ride a YZ 250 2 stroke and it is a blast.  Havent ridden in a bit due to illness but hope to by the end of summer and spend some time camping and riding the national forest.  Good score on the high amp grinder, now you will definately need good abrasives.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:For anyone in the Inland Empire near Ontario (Calif.), Patton's is having a two-for-one sale on Makita grinders until noon on Saturday. Bring in any old grinder and get two new Makita's for the price of one, about $65.00 + tax.City of L.A. Reply:I had some older makitas that didnt last at all, they were light duty ones though. I have 2 dewalts that are very noisy (have been since new) but seem to be pluggin along still, I have 2 Bosch that I love, they are not the most powerful, but they seem to run forever, feel good in my hand also, had a porter cable that didnt last long either, but that may have been partialy my fault, at the time i was working outside alot and setting the grinder down on the ground alot, Im wonderin if it sucked up some sand and grit...... Please keep us posted on how this Makita holds up, its got more amps than my bosch, and it looks like it has the slide swithch not the paddle, not a fan of the paddles......good luck with it and enjoy
Reply:You made a good move buying the Makita. I've owned just about every kind of grinder and not only is the Makita the best it is also the slimmest body so you can hold onto it better. I own 7 Makita grinders and about 10 other Makita tools.
Reply:I like Makita tools, I have two of their grinders in the 'fleet' at the moment.Especially with the high speed / high torque grinders beware of the gyroscope effect.  If you suddenly change the orientation of the grinder it will try to jump out of your hand."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25

Reply:How are Patton's material prices, esp for fence building material compared to IMS (Industrial Metal Supply)?  I usually go to the burbank store.   Never been to pattons, will need to check them outTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:I have a 2 Pack of the Makita 7amp johnnys... So far so good. Get hot fast though. I agree with the "Gyroscope" comment above, my Milwaukee 10amp will rip right out of your hands if you "change your Vector" real fast...I also have 2 of the cheaper Bosch, not so thrilled, but they dont have the run time that my Makitas do...Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:I have no guards on my grinders. But, I am self employed. Which means that you don't have to worry, when I cut myself with it, I'll have to pay to fix myself. No workman's comp here.On the grinder: so far I am still stoked. The only draw back I can find is the size, it's big. It's got variable speed and has a soft start function so it's easy to hold on to when you start it. When I start to push hard it seems like more amps kick in and it really starts digging. The thing makes the same sound when grinding hard or spinning freely. My other grinders seem really wimpy now. On Makita brand tools, the reason I got this grinder was because I burned up two grinders on this job I was working on, they were both the new thin barrel makita. The first one is being repaired under warranty, the second one, only two days old, got returned and the price credited to the purchase of the big one. I seem to remember older makitas having a circuit breaker built in so you can't burn 'em up. But this new thin body model seems to lack it. I still like the thin body grinder, it's really light and easy to use, but it's been relegated to fine finish type work.On foreign company, and local labor. I know of no locally owned company that makes electric tools like these. Most power tool makers are part of some huge conglomerate corporation. Makita, though Japanese, is still an independent company that only makes tools and puts their own name on their product, so I think that is better. Made in USA by someone is better than made in china, period.Last edited by fortyonethirty; 06-19-2011 at 11:53 PM.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
