Lincoln sae 400 for sale

Hey fellas I've been watching this machine on eBay . It's a refurbished 1989 lincoln  sae400 .It has a Perkins diesel .  Seen a local listing and talked with the fella. Said motor is very sound welds very smooth . My question how much for this machine als it is on a trailer. Was going to set up a meet and weld with it . If it is exceptional what price would be best to offer for this machineThanks for your help . Jim
Reply:I have no idea what it’s worth. Company I was working for in the mid 1980s bought one for me. I ran it for about 2-years. Mostly ran self shielded wire with it. I loved that machine, if I could find one I think I’d have to buy it! Reply:Well it is a smooth welding machine . Wasn't erratic welds melt like butter. Motor there wasn't any leaks or noises . Fired up on one revolution.  Told guy I'd get back to him . Except for age if you welded with it and didn't know how old machine was couldn't tell from sound or how it welded. Still looking for any help as to what to offer . Machine painted,new decals, new battery and cables new fuel lines and lift pump ,5 ft.  pigtails on lugs. Electric side very strong . Machine was kept indoors. The buy it now is 5200.00  just don't know if that is reasonable.Thanks again for any help on pricing this with trailer . Jim
Reply:Sounds very reasonable to me for the description you gave, and that is even without the trailer. But you better look out. You let CEP know about it, and he wants one. If it is west of the Mississippi River, he may be heading that way RIGHT now to buy it out from under you. So don't take too long to make a decision on this or it WILL be gone soon at that price, even if CEP is not the one to get it. Someone is going to snap it up pronto. Might as well be you.

Reply:i dont think its easy to say. old lincolns are like old cars.they can be beat to crap and be had for cheap, they can be beat to crap and call the dents character, which raises price.bottom line is, there is always some idiot out there willing to pay top-dollar. often me. people freak when i say i paid 500 for my sa200. people freak when i say i paid 3200 for my first toyota, people really freak when i consider more beat up ones for 5000. i wont tell you what i paid for the newer one.its only worth what its worth to YOU! and thats the great thing about welders. they earn their keep if you start em up once in a while. i know my "overpaid for" sa200 is no debt, and its lucky to get started once a month. it actually paid for itself, (half-rebuild included) before it's first 18 hour job was done. tools are investments, and always worth whatever money you have that can be invested toward thembosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:It's a big heavy duty welder and a new one is probably over $15,000. Do you need that big of a welder?
Reply:yes also I like to be able to keep machine not giving you one hundred percent but to baby it so it run not as hard and have a longer life
Reply:When I buy a piece of equipment I always decide if the asking price is what the piece is worth to Me.
Reply:If it's the one in NJ I didn't read "refurbished" I read DuPont overhaul with new face plate. I also didn't see any mention of hour meter. I own one of these and I will tell you they are about 2,000 lb with out the trailer. This vintage does not have a auto idle feature. Yes you can still purchase a CV adapter for it. The question is do you really need or want it and do you have a way to deal with a 2.000 lb welder? The resale on these is not as good as a SA200 but they will kick a 200's mule with arc adjustability, 500+ amps and 3 kv ac auxiliary power, but again I ask do you really need that? As for the price, market conditions and location have a lot to do with price. If your looking to put this on a truck you will need something north of a 1 ton and a serious way to lift it. I love mine but it rides on a 2 axle trailer and the 200's can ride in a truck. I am currently shopping for a sae 300 as it has the adjustability and 3kv ac auxiliary of the sae 400 but the foot print and auto idle of the 200's. please note that the later 400's had the auto idle but I believe they had a different motor also. Reply:With a diesel welder you want to work it. Putzin around with small rods and low amps on 400+ amp diesel welder is harder on the engine than burning big rods and making it work.
Reply:I do a lot of big rod work . I have other machines for light work . I just like to be suited for whatever application that I'm doing .
