Hey everyone, I finally got a welder for myself and after running one bead on the ground I decided my back couldn't take that. It's pretty rudimentary, but I wanted to put it up here so I could get some tips on how to improve from the experts! The info: 3/32" 6013 rod65 - 70 amps (no access to 220V yet)Thin angle iron (don't remember thickness 1/8" or less)Thick chunk of I beam.First weld was run at 75-80amps (not good):I then switched down to 65-70ampsFinal weld:Be easy on me, I'm new to this.Final product:Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Looks good for the first time. Get a couple pieces of flat plate and run about 30 beads and work on your speed and accuracy, get a feel for the puddle.  Practice makes perfect. Looks like you got the basics down, just keep at it.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Reply:thank you! that's my plan, I'm going to do a few pads of beads.  I would have started with that, but welding on the ground is not very comfortable nor I imagine very safe.
Reply:That's for sure! Also play with your heat settings and learn the difference between to hot and too cold. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using TapatalkLast edited by texasbest2006; 09-11-2015 at 11:44 PM.
Reply:Cool table! What machine do you run? Sometimes a dryer plug is all you need for 220.
Reply:I'm running an Everlast 160sth. Bought it for the dual voltage and the possibility of learning TIG later, but figured I'd learn stick for now.  I talked to my landlord about getting a 220v outlet out side (just above the breaker box) and it sounded like I'll probably be able to get one out thereSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:I won't make fun of it hurting your back! As there are days when I kneel and days when I lay down to stick something back together! When I did my 3G tests I actually sat on a bucket with a 2 by 6 for a seat as no where in the rules did it say I had to stand! The table will be a great start for you to practice your pads on!
Reply:Great table and you can use it for a horse when you build a bigger one. Look for bed frames for angles, rims for stands , the road is your warehouse and the flea market your tool store. Get some 1/8 7014 better rod yet.
